Banishing burnout
Tips to refresh and regroup
As a serial entrepreneur since the age of 16, I’ve gone through multiple ups and downs, both with my own emotions and, of course, along with the economy. When I am experiencing personal burnout, I have a few tricks to pull myself out of the burnout, to refresh and regroup.I go outside
I am a huge believer in the restorative power of nature. If I am feeling burned out, it’s a sign to me that I need to reconnect with nature and the purity and goodness that the outdoors offer. This usually means a hike, paddleboarding, swimming or something that grounds me deeply into my surroundings.
I spend time with friends
Like many people, I have a close group of friends who are my "front row" (aka: the people that you would ask to sit up front if you were in a play or getting an award). I call upon them during times of burnout and stress to both verbally process through things, and also so they can remind me of better times that are coming. Often times, they are able to do this by reminding me of similar times in my past that I struggled and made it through.
I write in a gratitude journal
If I am feeling burned out and everything looks gray and bleak, writing in a daily gratitude journal helps to pull me out of my funk.
I sleep more
Often times, severe burnout is your body’s way of saying, "You’ve been running me on empty too long, and I’m just dang tired!" So, I will deliberately sleep more hours in a night for up to a month to give my body a rest and refresh.
I get back to basics
My general philosophy is to create habits that automate many of the best practices life has to offer. In times of stress, it’s easy to let the meditation go by the wayside or to let fast food creep in. If I’m burned out, I know it’s more important than ever to support my body with nutrient-rich foods, quiet time and deliberate practices to keep me going down the right path to recovery.
Feeling burned out? Take care of yourself, then you'll be back on the path to your Best Day Ever.
